Little Garden Club of Rye

Message from the President

Dear LGC Members,

I hope you all had a lovely holiday and are joyously ringing in the New Year. Everyone I speak to is marveling at the weather and at the same time wondering what it says about our global climate. I am taking advantage of the sunshine and mild temperatures by taking long walks through Rye Town Park and the Read Sanctuary. I am so delighted that the county legislators voted to keep the curator positions funded for the county nature centers for another year. Thanks to all of you who voiced your support and wrote to the county executive and our county legislators. Our voices were heard, and my cynical self was happily proven wrong. We can make a difference in government.

We are kicking off 2012 with our next membership meeting on January 10 at the Rye Arts Center. Our own Nadia Valla has prepared a terrific lecture and Power Point presentation on what it takes to enter a winning photograph in a GCA flower show. I can't wait to learn how she creates her truly amazing photographs. Nadia has been asked to speak at other GCA clubs, and I am so proud that she is a member of The Little Garden Club. As usual, coffee will start at 9:00 am, followed by a business meeting at 9:30 sharp, and then Nadia's lecture. I am anxious to hear the report on the holiday luncheon fundraising event which was more beautiful than ever and a huge success.

I would also like to thank all the members who helped with the holiday decorating at the Rye Free Reading Room. It was a busy week for everyone, but we still had a nice turnout of volunteers who made short work of the project. I will let everyone know the date when the decorations are taken down and hope many of you will be able to lend a hand.

See you on January 10th!
Anna
