January 2022 club meeting a focus on conservation: Invasive Species
On January 11, 2022 Members gathered on Zoom for our Business Meeting. We reflected on the huge success of WinterGarden and celebrated those involved in making the event so wonderful.
Cheryl also wowed members with a candle she decorated from pressed flowers. There are many YouTube videos on how to apply the flowers using wax or Mod Podge. They could also be use on notecards. Cheryl may run another workshop on drying flowers, especially alstroemeria, pansies and columbine.
For a more detailed report on the Business Section of the meeting, members can access the minutes on our webpage under the members section.
Following our Business Meeting, Members joined Rye Garden Club members for a joint program via Zoom “Uninvited: The Spread of Invasive Species” by the Department of Environmental Conservation and Q&A with Laura Greene, Rye Nature Center Interim Conservation Director
It was fascinating to learn of the invasive species that exist among us and the impact that these could have on the landscape that we know and love. Laura was very knowledgeable and members were particularly fascinated/grossed out at the 'Jumping Worms'!
Despite having to be on Zoom, it was still a treat to see the faces of so many members while we all hunkered down to weather the long winter.
