THe Little Garden Club of Rye
Notes on Membership
The Purpose of the Garden Club of America is - to stimulate the knowledge and love of gardening; to share the advantages of association by means of educational meetings, conferences, correspondence, and publications; and to restore, improve, and protect the quality of the environment through educational programs and action in the fields of conservation and civic improvement.
What it means to be an LGC Member:
You will be encouraged to further your hobby of gardening, growing, flower arranging, photography and conservation.
~ You will work in the community on civic plantings, existing and new gardens - weeding, watering and pinching.
~ Your green thumb and creativity in arranging will be challenged!
~ You will be asked for your input on ways to interact with the community, to suggest new plants for our pots, designs for our arrangements and ideas for our fundraisers.
~You will enjoy the privilege of becoming a hardworking member of a uniquely loving, friendly, talented and passionate group of women - and you will make many, many friends!
Membership Involves:
~ Attending meetings and paying dues.
~ Participating in flower shows when you are ready.
~ Propagating plants for the annual zone Plant Exchange (PX).
~ Christmas fundraising - from auctions, to house tours, to decorative workshops and sales.
~ Watering and weeding for a week or two at one of the club's 6 civic sites; the post office, train station, Rockridge triangle, library gazebo, the Knapp House or the Rye Nature Center.
~ Seasonal community cleanups and occasional plantings of our civic sights, e.g. daffodil bulbs.
Provisional Members:
Every new member is a provisional member for at least the first year. Being a provisional member means you attend all of the meetings and participate in all club activities - including field trips and workshops. Provisionals are expected to serve on committees and work on civic sites and fundraisers. Only full members of the club, however, may vote on club matters, chair committees or hold office. At the end of your Provisional period, you may be voted into full membership provided you have attended meetings and have shown that you are interested and involved. The Little Garden Club really appreciates the new members and expects all our members to be active in whatever way they can.
